Illamasqua Theatre Of The Nameless Collection Fall 2011 - Nail Varnishes: Swatches and Review

I am always very excited about new collections from Illamasqua - a brand I fell in love with a long time ago. Illamasqua is exactly my cup of tea. It is edgy and very original. Every collection they come up with has a story behind. It is thought through and I love their pictures that come with the collection.
Theatre Of The Nameless, their new collection for this fall, is no exception. I am very excited that I can show you all four nail varnishes that are a part of this collection.

Illamasqua says: "Taking a lead from the colour-coded specialities of the Wittenberg Platz’s domineering Boot Girls, Illamasqua introduces confident new shades, in a brazen display of utter indulgence. The Theatre of the Nameless proudly parades a kinky new waxy “rubber-look” finish to Illamasqua’s hardwearing, chip-resistant Nail Varnish … "

The new rubber-look is similar to what we have seen with Illamasqua Scorn earlier this year. It is a satin finish somewhere between glossy and matte. Here are my swatches, you can read my overall thoughts at the end:

KINK
I had enough time to try all of these as a full mani and had each one of them a few days on. Yes I even had a green polish. And you know what? I liked it! Maybe it is the rubber finish...it makes it a bit different than anything else I have from the green family of nail polishes. Kink is described as a bottle green. The application on this one was flawless (I don´t have to say that, we are talking about Illamasqua here). I used two coats.

VICE
Vice is a deep cerise and absolutely perfect for fall. It also covers in two coats, but I used three on these pictures just to be sure.

FAUX PAS
My favourite...of course! It is a purple, a classic medium purple. On Faux Pas you can see the rubberized finish the best, just have a look at the detail. Faux Pas also had the best coverage from the set, if you use a thicker coat it covers in just one. I love that!

TAINT
Taint is my least favourite but I know some of you will love it. Still I love the finish it has. I didn't find anything like this in my nail polish collection. Illamasqua describes it as a stone brown.

Overall I am glad I don´t see any other glossy cremes as we have seen a lot of them this fall. I am glad that Illamasqua came with this rubberised finish. Not only are the nail polishes in this finish but also their caps! I love that and wish all polishes had rubberized caps...they are much easier to open and work with.
As I also already said the polishes have a great formula and are easy to work with. Most Illamasqua polishes I tried have exceptional quality and these are no exception. They have good coverage too. The drying time on these is a bit longer than you would expect from polishes with this finish. Once applied they are glossy and you have to wait for about 3 - 5 minutes for the effect to fully show. Compared with Scorn the drying time is a bit longer but still faster than a normal glossy creme.
I am also happy with the color choice. Glad there is a beautiful purple which I will be wearing a lot this fall! Overall a nice little collection with typical fall colors but with a different finish that we have seen from other brands.

P.S. Did I tell you how much I love the names of these?

I can´t wait to hear your thoughts so tell me what do you think about these? Any must haves?

  4. I thought I wouldn't like any of these this year, but Vice is probably my favorite. I also wonder if they would look like regular cremes with top coat on, or super jelly.

  5. Elbee: I will try that :) Vice really is beautiful!

  6. Fantastic swatches - I like the colour/finish, something a bit different. I wonder if there are any polishes in my collection that don't dry shiny that I can rename as rubber?!

  7. I love the way Kink looks! Do you think it's anything like Butter Londons British Racing Green?

  8. Krissy: I don´t have that one to make a comparison. I actually don´t have any polishes like Kink because I am not much a green fan.

  16. These are must haves!!!! I only have Scorn by Illamasqua (I won it on a giveaway... very lucky despite being a giveaway of just one nail polish!) and I must say I love them! I follow all your reviews on them and it makes me want more!!! This collection is just perfect! It's not boring, it doesn't make the Fall so dull but the colours are so appropriate! And Taint and Vice... my favourites!

  17. Kolekce je zajímavá a úplně nečekaná. Mě se paradoxně nejvíc líbí taint (což se dalo předpokládat, že), ale rozhodně se na ně těším, protože ten finish je vážně zajímavý.

  23. VERY pretty nails as always :) I've been interested in trying this brand, but so far, no color has jumped out as being a "must have"--not that I don't like the colors, they are just similar to those I already have.

Great review though--I will keep them on my watch list!

  24. I think I may have to send you an extra Orly I have, they did a finish similar to this last year!

  25. jbrobeck: oh I know about that collection. You are right that it might be the same. I just never bought them because the colors were nothing interesting (except the purple of course) :)

  26. Let us know how the top coat works out. I'm wondering if it defeats the purpose of the rubberized finish.

  27. I love the Green one, though it reminds me of a Matte version of Essie's Going Incognito

  28. Although these are gorgeous colors for fall, and your swatches are absolutely flawless, (which I know is very difficult with mattes, 'cause you can see every imperfection of the nail), I think I'm gonna pass all of these shades. Great inspiration though, to dig into my own stash more often and "ruberize" the fall shades I already own. I don't want to be a party pooper here, but there is nothing original about this finish, and for that I am a bit dissapointed in Illamasqua. Don't get me wrong, I am an absolute fan of their nailpolishes, for their original shades, and the high quality and excellent formula. But there are other brands that have released this kind of finish, just named it differently. Orly came out in 2010 with their Plastix, and L'Oreal released their Titanium Mattes last year, with a rubber-look finish as well. On top of that, I have a low budget matt topcoat which achieves the same finish (1,99 euro's in Holland).

  29. Am I the only one who is grossed out by "Taint"? The name AND associated color?

    Other than that, great collection!

  30. I saw your swatches in Illamasqua FaceBook page. I recognized it because you were one of the first bloggers to swatch these. They did not efen credit you, or link your blog page. They acted as if the pictures were their own. You should say something. Shame on Illamasqua!

  31. babycakes2000: that must be a misunderstanding. They always credit me and they even made a blog post about our cooperation :)
